FIRS shutdown cement, engineering firms over tax evasion

Federal Inland Revenue Service enforcement team from Abuja stormed Rivers State on Monday and sealed off Lafarge in Onne and IGPES in Port Harcourt for  alleged tax evasion.

While the cement company was sealed for allegedly failing to pay over N10m in taxes; IGPES, an engineering firm, was shut for allegedly evading tax to the tune N1.2bn.

Speaking shortly after sealing off the two companies, the leader of the FIRS team, Mrs. Ruth Mandeun, warned their managements to pay the outstanding taxes to allow for the reopening of the firms.

Governor of CBN, Emefiele says Managing an economy in recession difficult

Managing an economy in recession is a difficult task but also presents challenges that are surmountable, the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has said.

Emefiele said this while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Finance, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, who paid an oversight visit to the apex bank in Abuja on Monday.

The CBN boss said the situation in the country required the cooperation and collaboration of all stakeholders, and expressed delight at the support that the bank had received from lawmakers in the past.

Prophetess Remanded In Prison For Stealing Life Turkey in Osun State

A Cherubim & Seraphim prophetess, 41-year-old Sola Ajayi, who allegedly stole a Canadian-breed life turkey valued at N30, 000, is to remain behind bars, an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun ruled on Monday.

Ajayi was ordered to be kept in prison custody over his inability to perfect her bail.

Banks cancels usage of Naira debit/credit cards for transactions overseas due to Dollar Scarcity

As part of efforts to manage the dollar crisis, Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria have sent out messages to their customers notifying them that they cannot use their Naira debit/credit cards for any transaction abroad for now.

A message sent by one of the banks pictured above, states that all transactions done outside Nigeria will henceforth be via a dollar debit/credit card.

Idowu Oyedeji a beautiful Nigeria girl has shared photos detailing her journey to recovery after surviving a ghastly car crash that left her unconscious for days with a couple of surgeries done. Idowu was involved in a ghastly car accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in June this year. She sat in the backseat of the car while her husband and a friend both sat in the front seats. Their car had an accident that caused her hubby and his friend to have little bruises while she suffered a major impact from the accident that left her unconscious for many days. Idowu shared these photos from her recovery on Facebook as she thanks, family members and friends who stood by her.

Whiteman accused of infecting Nigerian Girl with HIV says He slept with Six other Ladies

An Irish national based in Nigeria identified as James Turner,  said he slept with no fewer than six other ladies. Turner is the man accused by his 31-year-old Nigerian girlfriend of deliberately infecting her with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV.

The 67-year-old man also confessed to have sent his wife back to the Republic of Ireland, when his status was confirmed, in order not to infect her with the virus.

It was gathered, during interrogation that among the girls the suspect had slept with was his girlfriend’s friend. The concerned ladies, it was gathered, were all commercial sex workers.
