The exploding smartphone batteries that forced Samsung to scrap its top-end Galaxy Note 7 were installed in a factory in rural Vietnam overlooking buffalo fields and rice paddies where workers earn salaries starting at £33 a week, according to report.

Batteries were processed and packaged in Samsung's specialist SDI battery-making plant in northern Vietnam where the South Korean giant phone maker has invested billions of pounds since 2009 to create a low-cost global production hub.

Reports have it that some dare-devil gunmen on Thursday evening snatched the pilot car of the Cross River State Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Esu, and killed a policeman in the process.

A man has reportedly stabbed his girlfriend of three years to death for returning his engagement ring and breaking up with him. The man identified as Rodney Harvey after executing the gruesome act also killed himself by jumping to his death from her apartment.

The woman identified as Julia Martin had broken up with her boyfriend before the incident happened.

According to the ChicagoTribune, Martin, a 27-year-old from Detroit, tried to save her own life. She grabbed her phone and called police about 7 p.m. She asked them to send an ambulance for her. She told them the name of the man who stabbed her.

The third quarter report of the Nigeria Police Force Complaint Response Unit (CRU), has revealed that the unit has recovered N2.7 million bribe from an Assistant Commissioner of Police (name withheld) serving in one of the state commands.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the report which was signed by Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle, Head of CRU in Abuja, the recovery followed a complaint made to the CRU through a telephone call.

Shogunle said that necessary disciplinary procedures were ongoing against the officer involved in the misconduct, adding that the suspect arrested in respect of the case had since been handed over to the relevant agency for prosecution.
