Cross River State | Sen Ben Ayade's supporters welcome him with a coffin bearing his opponent's name

Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade was welcomed at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar on Friday with a solidarity rally by a large crowd following his return from Abuja.

Some of his supporters carried a coffin with the name of former gubernatorial aspirant, Barrister Joe Agi, who is currently at the Supreme court with Governor Ayade for allegedly falsifying his age in the nomination forms purchased for the gubernatorial primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the run up to the 2015 general elections which Ayade won.

Zimbabwean member of parliament, Trevor JI Saruwaka was denied entry into his work place because his outfit supposedly flouted house rules. Rochas Okorocha: Imo people to decide on my successor in 2019

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, says that he is yet to decide on which of his loyalists would be his successor in the 2019 governorship election in the state, saying that the Imo people will know at the appropriate time.

He, however, described his Deputy, Prince Eze Madumere, as one of his diehard loyalists in the last 23 years who has stood by him during his political trials and has proved to be the man that can be trusted no matter the circumstance.

Former Head of State, Abdusalami urges FG to establish more cancer centres

A former Head of State, General Abdusalami Abubakar, has urged the federal government to establish more cancer control and treatment centres in the country to help reduce the medical tourism abroad.

Abubakar made the call on Saturday during the official Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of Asi Ukpo Oncology Centre in Calabar.

He said the current nine cancer centres in the country were incapable of meeting up with the needed services required by the over 160 million Nigerians.

Ambakederimo: Nigeria’s recession self-inflicted, but won’t last long

The Convener, South-South Reawakening Group, Mr Joseph Ambakederimo, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari-led government should not be blamed for the nation’s current economic hardship stressing that the ‘current recession was self inflicted’.

According to him, decades of lack of planning, mismanagement and corruption coupled with the importation of eventually every goods the country can produce plagued the country into recession.

He however, warned the federal government not to conceive to piling pressures from some rich individuals into selling some of the nation’s valuable assets as he was hopeful that the current economic recession would not last long.

U.S. envoy says Washington to use all means to pressure North Korea

Washington will use all available means outside the U.N. Security Council to isolate North Korea over its nuclear weapons program and counter its growing threat to world order, the U.S. envoy to the United Nations said on Sunday.

The United States will also use its military as a deterrent to the North's threat, Ambassador Samantha Power told a news conference in Seoul, after visiting the heavily armed Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) border between the rival Koreas.

UNHCR builds transitional shelter, kits for IDPs

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has built 7,350 units of transitional shelter and kits to accommodate returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) from liberated communities in Borno, northeast of the country and Cameroon.

In Bama town and Maiduguri Bakasi Camp, 2, 950 transitional shelter units were also completed by the UN agency for IDPs’ occupation.

The Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), yesterday told the Federal Government not to see the one-year ‘incarceration’ of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and founder of Radio Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a defeat to Biafra agitators.

46-year-old Kanu was arrested by DSS at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos in October 2015, on his way back from the United Kingdom (UK).
