Teacher arrested for alleged sexual assault of 6-yr-old pupil

A 35-year-old primary school teacher, Ndubuisi Chukwu, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old.

The accused, a resident of Kojola, Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State, was arraigned on a one-count charge of attempt to commit rape and sexual assault by penetration.

According to the prosecutor, Lucky Ihiehie, the complainant and mother of the victim came to the Ketu Police Station in company with the victim to report the incident.

EFCC says they will make more Arrests in Coming Days

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Nigeria (EFCC) says it will make more arrests in coming days even as it advised all persons engaged in the looting of the nation’s treasury to have a re-think.

It further announced plans to vigorously pursue and prosecute persons involved in graft.

Oyegun says no rift with Tinubu just difference in Opinion

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr John Oyegun, has dismissed the rift between himself and the party’s stalwart, Bola Tinubu, as mere differences in opinion and perception.

He told reporters in Abuja on Tuesday that he had no plans to resign as the party’s chairman and stressed that the procedure was specified in the party constitution.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has called on the judiciary in the state to partner the police and other security agencies to ensure speedy dispensation of justice in order to decongest the prisons.

The governor made the call at a thanksgiving service in Uyo to mark the commencement of the 2016/2017 Legal Year.

Governor Emmanuel, who described the judiciary in the state as a reliable partner in the maintenance of peace and order in the state, is concerned over the slow and cumbersome procedures involved in the administration of justice.

Nigeria might be out of Recession by 2017 - IMF Predicts

The International Monetary Fund has predicted that the Nigerian economy will grow by 0.6% in 2017, effectively lifting the country out of an officially declared recession.

In the IMF’s World Economic Outlook report released on Tuesday, Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product is expected to increase marginally by 0.6% with Consumer Prices rising by 17.1%.

Nigeria’s Current Account Balance is however forecast to slump further by 0.4% next year.

Erosion Destroys over 100 houses in Anambra

The times are indeed rough for the people of Enug­wu-Ukwu community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, as rampaging erosion has sacked more than 500 of them from their homes.

By the disclosures of the el­ders of the area, the erosion has taken over 70.5 hectares of their communal land.

The natural disaster, which washed away many farmlands, economic trees, and public util­ities sited in the affected land mass, also affected 100 homes.

Code of Conduct Tribunal, (CCT) Seizes Orubebe’s Properties

The Code of Conduct Tribunal, (CCT) yesterday ordered former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Or­ubebe, to give up a landed property situated at Plot 2057, Asokoro district to the Federal Government.

The tribunal while delivering its judgment on charges of nondeclaration of assets, held that Orube was guilty of false declara­tion of asset.

The CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar who pre­sided over a two-man panel ordered the seizure and forfeiture of the property belonging to Orubebe.

Kidnappers say they didn’t know it was CBN Governor's wife they abducted

A member of the group that kidnapped Margaret, wife of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, last week has said he and his gang members were not aware of the identity of the people they abducted.

Margaret and four other persons in her company were kidnapped on Friday along the Benin-Agbor Expressway by armed gunmen.

Miracle Baby born with TWO heads dies 32 Hours Later (Photos)

A baby boy with two heads was been born in India and described as a ‘miracle’ by doctors – unfortunately, he died 32 hours later.

According to Daily Mail, the baby boy was born on Monday morning local time to his 20-year-old mother at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, in Ajmer, Rajasthan, in northern India, and weighed about 2.5 kilograms (5lbs 7oz).

A 35-year-old woman, Loretta Ewere, has been reportedly electrocuted at her fiance’s house on Ajoke Kazeem Street in the Idimu area of Lagos State.

According to PUNCH Metro, Ewere’s fiancé, Segun Tolani, was fixing an electrical fault when the incident happened. She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital in the area but was rejected before being confirmed dead at the Igando General Hospital.

Ewere and Tolani had scheduled their wedding for November and preparation was in top gear when tragedy struck.

A National Diploma holder of a polytechnic in Delta State, Anene Odikose, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for impersonation.

A police uniform, an identity card bearing his name and a Honda car were said to have been recovered from him by operatives attached to the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Agbado division.

Afghanistan | US commando killed by roadside bomb

A U.S. commando has been killed in Afghanistan after being hit by a roadside bomb while on patrol with Afghan forces in a northeastern province bordering Pakistan, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

U.S. special operations forces have been conducting counterterror operations with Afghan troops against Islamic State militants in Achin, Nangarhar province. The U.S. military said the service member died Tuesday from wounds sustained when the patrol triggered an improvised explosive device.
