On Tuesday, September 20th, the Senate resumed its plenary activities after its yearly recess. For his resumption speech, the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, delivered opening remarks that centred solely around the economy. Saraki stated that over the next few months, the focus of the Senate would be to save Nigeria’s economy from collapse.

In an open letter to EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, Senior Partner, First Law Associates, Timipa Okponipere Esq.urged the Commission to leave the Goodluck Jonathan family alone “We shall file an action at the African Commission on Human Rights at the Gambia demanding N5 billion in exemplary and punitive damages.”

Rochas Okorocha advocates Jail Term for Female genital mutilation

The Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has warned that from henceforth, female genital mutilation (FGM) will attract imprisonment.

Rochas Okorocha affirmed that as soon as the bill against FGM is passed into law by the State House of Assembly, punishment for offenders might run into several years of imprisonment.

The Governor gave this hint at the launch of the campaign against FGM , initiated by his wife, Nkechi, in collaboration with United Nations Fund for Population Agency (UNFPA), described the practice as barbaric and unacceptable.

Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Oluranti Adebule at the 3rd quarterly stakeholders’ forum of private schools owners held at the Secretariat, Alausa in Ikeja, today said the State Government is ready to shut down 10,444 unregistered private schools which littered the state.

According to Adebule, it is shocking to discover that out of the 15,000 private schools operating in the state, only 4,556 were registered and vowed to take urgent action.
