Sweden won't deport Turkish asylum seekers linked to opposition

Sweden will, "for the time being", not deport Turkish asylum seekers linked to the country’s political opposition in the wake of last month’s attempted coup in Turkey, authorities said on Wednesday.

The Swedish Migration Agency’s decision applies to individuals who have “credible links” to the failed July 15 coup attempt in Turkey.

Including supporters of preacher Fethullah Gulen who lives in the U.S. and members of the political opposition.

PDP says ‘Fayose And Mimiko Are Far Better Than Ambode’

The Lagos state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, said that contrary to a recent poll by the African Leadership Magazine, Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, is not the best performing governor in Nigeria.

According to the Lagos state PDP publicity secretary, Gani Taofik, who stated this in an interview with The Punch, the governors of Ekiti state and Ondo state out-performed Ambode.

The PDP further stated that the poll was a political tool sponsored by the Lagos state government in other to mislead Nigerians.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has directed commercial banks to sell dollar to Pilgrims heading to the 2016 Hajj at the exchange rate of N197.

The move follows the continued fall of the Nigerian naira against the greenback as the naira exchanged for N400 at the close of business on Thursday.

The Central Bank however set a limit to the exchange amount as it placed the minimum amount to be exchanged at $750 with its maximum limit set at $1000 per pilgrim.

Landlord left three-page of Suicide Note after taking his own life

A 48-year-old landlord on Tuesday hanged himself in Ibadan, leaving behind a three-page suicide note.

The incident happened in Idi-Ose along Akan road in Ona Ara Council Area of the city.

The deceased, Popoola Adepoju, was found in his room dangling from a rope tied to a ceiling fan.

UK Court Sentence Franca Asemota To 22 Years Imprisonment For Human Trafficking

A Nigerian woman, Franca Asemota, 38, has been sentenced to 22 years jail term for trafficking in persons.

She was found guilty of attempting to traffic Nigerian girls through Heathrow Airport to work as sex workers in brothels across Europe, a statement by United Kingdom (UK) stated.

Asemota was convicted on Wednesday, 3rd August at Isleworth Crown Court of eight counts of conspiracy to traffic persons for sexual exploitation, two counts of trafficking persons outside of the UK for sexual exploitation and two counts of assisting unlawful immigration.

Twenty-three years after he gave judgment annulling the June 12, 1993, presidential election, Justice Dahiru Saleh has said he has no regrets for his action even as he absolved former military ruler, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), of blame in the controversial decision.

The election, won by the late business mogul, Chief MKO Abiola, was cancelled by the Babangida administration, with the former military ruler accepting responsibility for the decision, which nearly plunged Nigeria into another civil war.
