UK Court Sentence Franca Asemota To 22 Years Imprisonment For Human Trafficking

A Nigerian woman, Franca Asemota, 38, has been sentenced to 22 years jail term for trafficking in persons.

She was found guilty of attempting to traffic Nigerian girls through Heathrow Airport to work as sex workers in brothels across Europe, a statement by United Kingdom (UK) stated.

Asemota was convicted on Wednesday, 3rd August at Isleworth Crown Court of eight counts of conspiracy to traffic persons for sexual exploitation, two counts of trafficking persons outside of the UK for sexual exploitation and two counts of assisting unlawful immigration.

NFF Unveils Nigeria’s New Kit For National Football Team

Ibori, who was governor of oil-rich Delta State between 1999 and 2007, is currently serving a 13-years jail sentence in London after admitting fraud of nearly £50million. He was sentenced by a Southwark crown court in 2012.

The election, won by the late business mogul, Chief MKO Abiola, was cancelled by the Babangida administration, with the former military ruler accepting responsibility for the decision, which nearly plunged Nigeria into another civil war.

The 1993 presidential election, adjudged to be one of the most credible polls in the country’s history, saw Abiola, a Muslim from the South, who ran on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) defeating a northern Muslim, Alhaji Bashir Tofa of the National Republican Convention (NRC).

UNILAG Authorities slam SUG Leaders Four Semester Suspension Each

Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have suspended Students’ Union leaders who participated actively in the institution’s last protest.

It was gathered that three of the suspended students have got their suspension letters, while others have been notified that they have a mail by their departments’ officials.

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday dismissed the suit filed by Mr. James Faleke challenging the election that brought Gov Yahaya Bello of Kogi State into power, thereby upholding the election.

A five-member panel led by Justice Jumai Hannatu Sankey held that Faleke’s case was not substantial enough to disqualify the governor.

Nigerian Medical Students arrested for stealing in the Carribeans, decries lack of funds

Some Nigerian medical students studying in St Vincent and Grenadines in the Caribbean have reportedly been arrested for theft.

The students were awarded scholarships in 2013 under the Rivers State Scholarship schemes.

Two of the sixteen students were nabbed after they were caught stealing, Vanguard gathered.

The students, who reportedly said they resorted to stealing due to lack of funds, complained that the government abandoned them to their own fate for close to 2 years, alleging that they (government) refused to pay their tuition and starving them of their monthly upkeep allowances.
