Edo PDP says Oshiomhole prevent us from using school for campaign

The campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Edo State governorship election was on Wednesday shifted for the second time when the party was shut out of Olua Primary School, the proposed venue, allegedly by the state government.

The party explained that it had applied and received approval for the use of the school field in Uselu, before it was cancelled by the Edo State Government.

It said that it had already put in place logistics and materials needed for the rally, including canopies, chairs, a mounted stage and sound system, but received words from the authorities of the school that they had been directed to cancel the approval given for the usage of the field.

Federal Government to commence Feeding of 5.5 Million Pupils in September

The Federal Government, Wednesday, said it will commence its National Home Grown School Feeding Programme this September with 5.5 million pupils across the country.

The National Programme Manager, Mrs Abimbola Adesanmi, disclosed this in Abeokuta during the opening of a two-day stakeholders’ workshop on the Ogun State Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

Gov Dickson says Military Action Can’t Stop Niger Delta Militancy

The Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, on Wednesday maintained that deployment of the military to Niger Delta would not quell militancy in the region.

The military had threatened to use force if dialogue with the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and other militant groups in the region fail to yield the desired results.

But speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Dickson said the only way out of the crisis is dialogue and negotiations.

Former Managing Director of the defunct Nigerian Airways, Captain Mohammed Joji, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government not to romance the Niger-Delta Avengers by going into dialogue with them.

Joji was speaking in Kaduna on Wednesday. He said that Nigeria, like China should introduce capital punishment for stealing and corrupt practices.

Joji said, by blowing up oil pipelines and destroying other key facilities that affect the economy of Nigeria, the Avengers had declared war against the Nigerian state, therefore, they should not be treated with globe hands.

Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the federal house of representatives, has issued a seven-day ultimatum within which Abdulmumin Jibrin, former chairman of the appropriation committee, must apologise and retract all his allegations against him or face legal action.

In a statement on Wednesday, Turaki Hassan, spokesman to Dogara, said the demand for retraction of allegations and apology was contained in a letter addressed to Jibrin by Joash Ojo Amupitan, counsel to the speaker.

Alexandre Pato complete move to Villarreal on a four-year deal

Alexandre Pato has agreed a four-year deal with Villarreal, joining the Spanish side from Corinthians for an undisclosed fee.

Pato returned to Corinthians in July following an unsuccessful loan spell at Chelsea which saw him make just two Premier League appearances for the Blues having joined them in January.

The 26-year-old striker's contract with the Brazilian club was due to expire at the end of 2016, but he will now represent Villarreal until 2020.
