FIFA President to Arrive in Nigeria On Sunday

President of football’s world governing body, FIFA, Mr. Gianni Infantino, and the Secretary General, Ms Fatma Samba Samoura, will arrive in Abuja on Sunday for a two-day working visit, the Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed.

The duo will be received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by NFF President Amaju Pinnick, members of the NFF Board and Management, and a host of other prominent figures in Nigeria football.

Barcelona May Play Friendlies In Nigeria - La Liga President

President of Spanish La Liga, Javier Tebas, has hinted that the partnership entered between LaLiga and the Nigeria Professional Football League could see FC Barcelona play friendly games in Nigeria.

Tebas said this in a media conference at the official opening of the La Liga office in Nigeria on Friday inside the Corporate Headquarters of the League Management Company in Abuja.

Tebas recalled that he led a delegation of LaLiga officials to Nigeria in April to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the LMC.

Former Nigeria coach and FIFA/CAF Technical Advisor Adegboye Onigbinde has described as a national disgrace the decision of Frenchman Paul Le Guen to snub Nigeria after he was recommended for the Super Eagles coaching job by the Nigeria Football Federation.

"A portion of FIFA rules talks about a game being brought into disrepute," Onigbinde told journalists.

Minister of Sports, Dalung reacts to Olympic athletes begging for funds

The Minister of Youths and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, has reacted to the purported message being sent to the Nigerian Rio athletes concerning their trip the Olympics.

Dalung said that he regrets the embarrassment caused Nigeria by a letter which directed Nigerian athletes going to the Olympic Games in Rio to buy their own air tickets.

The minister claimed that the said letter was not from the ministry and vowed to investigate the writer.

He disclosed this in a statement signed by his media aide, Nneka Anibeze, which was posted on his Facebook account.

2016 Olympics: Embarrassing as Nigerian athletes go on social media to beg for funds (See Post)

Condemnations have continued to trail the delay by the Nigerian authorities in releasing funds to the country’s contigents, billed to participate in the 2016 Rio Olympics, holding in Brazil between August 5-21, 2016.

Some Nigerian athletes billed to participate in track and field events at the Olympics, on Friday, took to various social media platforms and online crowd-sourced funding platforms to solicit for funds to fly them to the competition.

Some of the athletes who could not hide the shame of missing out in the competition, after about four years of preparation, owing to delay in releasing funds for them, begged well-meaning Nigerians to come to their rescue. 

Kogi re-run commences peacefully

Polling in Saturday’s legislative re-run election in Kogi began at about 8.05am in parts of the areas of the state involved in the exercise.

The exercise is being conducted in Kogi East Senatorial District, where the senatorial seat at the National Assembly and two House of Assembly seats are at stake.

The state constituency seats in the contest are for Ofu and Idah, both in Kogi East.

APC says Gov Wike is responsible for INEC office fire

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, has urged security agencies to hold Governor Nyesom Wike responsible for Friday’s arson on Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in Bori.

This is contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Saturday by the Chairman of APC in the state, Chief Davies Ikanya.

INEC office in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of the state was gutted by fire on Friday.

The party alleged that the election umpire’s office was burnt down by hoodlums suspected to be the Peoples Democratic Party members.

The suspects said they were angry at their late father for giving Ayodele 40 cows and gave them 10 cows each as their own inheritance.

According to Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Okaula, the suspects stated that they, in the company of a fleeing suspect, Quadri Ayodele, killed the victims and pulled their corpses close to the residence of Ayodele to implicate him.

Punch gathered that Ayodele — on the discovery of the corpses near his house — was arrested, charged to court and remanded in prison custody.

Man Behind World’s Largest Piracy Website Arrested in Poland by US Federal Agents

The man behind the web’s biggest piracy network has been arrested and charged with criminal copyright infringement and money laundering.

According to CNN Money, 30-year-old Ukranian Artem Vaulin, the alleged owner of the world’s largest torrent site Kickass Torrents, was arrested by the United States Government in Poland, where they had requested his extradition.

The Kickass Torrents is a commercial website that enables users to illegally reproduce and distribute hundreds of millions of copyrighted motion pictures, video games, television programs, musical recordings and other electronic media and has being in existence since 2008.

With millions of unique visitors per day, it is now one of the most-used BitTorrent portals online – even bigger than ‘The Pirate Bay’.
