Wenger says expect a lots from Arsenal newcomer Xhaka

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says new signing Granit Xhaka has a huge amount to offer following his arrival from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Switzerland international, who was one of his country's standout performers at Euro 2016, completed a move to Emirates Stadium in May for a fee reported to be close to £35million.

Arsenal are lighter on numbers in central midfield despite Xhaka's arrival, with Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta having all left the club at the end of last season.

FLASH! Court Grants Fayose’s Ally Bail over N1.2bn Fraud

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the release of an ally of Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, Abiodun Agbele‎, who has been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission since June 27.

Agbele was arrested by the EFCC in Lagos on June 27 and has since been detained for his roles in the handling of over N1.2bn on behalf of Fayose during the Ekiti State governorship election in 2014.

The outgoing United States Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, yesterday, failed again to appear before the House of Representatives investigative hearing committee on the alleged sex misconduct involving three members of the House.

This is as the three members involved in the sex scandal accused the ambassador of racial discrimination, adding that the allegation, which they claimed never existed, was a plot to smear the image of the country.

They also said the absence of the ambassador and the postponement of the investigative hearing on two occasions were a denial in disguise.

Security Operatives Arrests Tompolo’s Allies

Security operatives have nabbed two associates of former militant leader Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo.

Simon Bebenimibo and Bomboy Oluba were arrested on Monday in an operation reportedly carried out by troops in the Niger Delta area.

The Nation quoted security sources as saying that the operation, which was part of a special search for the operatives and leaders of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), was executed after a careful planning and a period of trailing the suspects.

Following confirmed intelligence report on the convergence and massing up of dislodged Boko Haram terrorists at Garere village in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, with intent of carrying out attack on some isolated communities, troops on fighting and clearance patrol Codenamed “Operation TIGER CLAW” on Tuesday July 19th, swooped in on the terrorists, killing 42 of them while unconfirmed number of the other terrorists escaped with gunshot wounds.

38 women and 42 children held captive were rescued from the insurgents. The women and children were taken to the military medical facility in Baga for checks. They were further assisted with food and clothing.

One resident who spoke to Sahara Reporters said the illegal grazing activities by herdsmen which have been obstructing vehicular and pedestrian movement, is just one of many problems facing Abuja. Street hawkers, unemployed youth, and street urchins have taken over every nook and cranny of the city.
