UEFA on Friday dropped proceedings against Liverpool and France international defender Mamadou Sakho over a doping infringement, European football’s governing body said, just two days before the Euro 2016 final.
The defender Sakho, who moved to Anfield for £18 million ($25 million) in 2013, has 28 caps for France and had been earmarked for a starting place for France at the championships before the case threw his career into jeopardy.
“Following a hearing with the lawyers of the player and experts of the WADA-accredited laboratories, in this case, the CEDB has decided to dismiss the case,” UEFA said in a statement, referring to its independent Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.
