Governor Aregbesola: "30 Days Of Ramadan Hunger Showed That We Can Endure Anything"

Rauf Aregbesola, governor of Osun state, on Wednesday said the just-concluded Ramadan fast had shown that people can survive under any circumstance.

Speaking in Osogbo after the Eid-el-Fitr prayers, Aregbesola called for tolerance and understanding of Nigerians to move the country forward.

He asked the people to apply the Ramadan experience to different areas of their lives.

“We thank Almighty Allah for permitting us to survive the fasting,” he said.

“We want to tell our people that if we can endure the 30 days Ramadan hunger, we can endure anything.

Nigerian man bags 2 years in prison for beating his girlfriend after she refused to have sex with him

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court, Cambodia on Tuesday, July 5, sentenced a Nigerian businessman, Kingsley Nshiodo to two years in prison for beating his girlfriend and threatening to stab her after she refused to have sex with him last year, according to court officials.

The 34-year-old will, however, have half his sentence reduced according to judge Yen Saroeun, but will be fined about $1,000 to the state budget after being charged with an act of violence with aggravating circumstances under the article of 218 of the Penal Code.

In a twist to the story, we reported earlier, a local priest at the Fermo bishop's seminary where Chidi and Chinyere had been staying said the attack was probably linked to four bombs recently planted outside Fermo churches that had worked with migrants. The bombs, which caused little damage and hurt no one, were left outside the churches including the Duomo between February and May, Father Vinicio Albanesi said. All the churches were run by priests who are socially active in helping migrants, drug addicts and the homeless and marginalised.

NNPC to uplift the Living Standards of Nigerians, Develop Communities

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has stated that it is working on a number of initiatives that would help develop communities around the country, improve the lives of Nigerians and help prepare youths to cope with the challenges of an increasingly difficult world.

Speaking at the grand finale of the 2016 NNPC Annual National Quiz Competition, Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr Ibe Kachikwu, also stated the corporation will not relent in its support for community-based efforts aimed at promoting education and youth development.

Kachikwu, who was represented by Group Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services of the NNPC, Mr Isa Inuwa, reiterated the commitment of the corporation towards the execution of many more strategic community development projects, particularly those that it believes would rapidly improve the lives of Nigerians.

A 36-year-old Nigerian man identified as Emmanuel Chidi, was beaten to death in what has been described as a racist attack by an Italian in the central Italian town of Paolo Calcinora on Tuesday, July 6th. According to reports, Emmanuel was walking on the road with his girlfriend, 24-year-old Chinyere, when his attacker called her an "African monkey".

Star Witness clears Jonathan’s cousin over $40m contract scam, says payment was duly approved

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Nnamdi O. Dimgba, Monday, resumed the trial of cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Azibaola Robert and his wife, Stella, with the star witness, Ibrahim Mahe, insisting that the US$40m payment for contract to the defendant was approved through due process.

Under cross examination by Azibola’s Lead Counsel, Gordy Uche (SAN), the former Permanent Secretary, Special Services Operations (SSO), at the Office of the NSA, told the trial court that OnePlus Holdings Limited, belonging to Azibaola, was paid $40m from $600m special security fund sourced from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, adding that before the defendants’ firm was credited with the $40m, at least nine officials in the office of the NSA had endorsed the payment warrant.

NUATE adjures FG to restructure aviation agencies for efficient service delivery

A group, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), has urged the Federal Government to restructure the various aviation agencies for efficient service delivery. 

NUATE’s Assistant General Secretary, Mr Olayinka Abioye, made the call while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos. 

NAN reports that the agencies include the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Accident Investigation Bureau. 

Abioye noted that apart from reorganising the various directorates and departments within the agencies; the government should also revisit the issue of fraudulent recruitments carried out in the past.
