Oshiomhole Tells Muslims not to Discard Ramadan Lessons

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has urged Nigerian Muslims to be guided by the invaluable lessons learnt during Ramadan as this would greatly mould their lives in the right path prescribed by Almighty Allah.

In his Eid-el-Fitr message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Peter Okhiria, Governor Oshiomhole said that the messages of love, perseverance, self-denial, almsgiving and others learnt during the holy month of Ramadan should not be discarded but should be applied daily by the Muslim in total obedience to the injunctions of Almighty Allah.

Paris attacks inquiry faults French intelligence agencies

A French parliamentary investigation into last year’s terrorist attacks on Paris has identified multiple failings by France’s many different intelligence agencies.

The parliamentary commission was set up to assess the failure to prevent a series of attacks that killed a total of 147 people in 2015 – from January’s gun attacks on the Charlie Hebdo offices and a kosher grocery store to the coordinated gun and bomb attacks on 13 November outside the national sports stadium, at bars and restaurants and at a rock gig at the Bataclan concert hall.

The commission highlighted a “global failure” of French intelligence and recommended a total overhaul of the intelligence services and the creation of a single, US-style national counter-terrorism agency.

Serena Williams cruise into Wimbledon semis with win over Pavlyuchenkova

Serena Williams convincingly dismantled Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-4 in the ongoing Wimbledon Competition. The 25-year-old fought gamely but Williams was in complete control, breaking her opponent in the ninth game of each set and never having to face a break point of her own in a comprehensive victory.

Valencia sign Nani from Fenerbahce for £7.2m

Valencia have confirmed the signing of the former Manchester United forward Luis Nani from Fenerbahce, after agreeing to pay his €8.5m (£7.2m) buyout clause.

The Portugal international moves to Spain on a three-year deal just a year after leaving Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace sign West Ham defender James Tomkins for £10million

Eid-el-Fitri: Saraki urges Nigerians to embrace peace and shun violence

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has called on Nigerians to eschew violence and embrace peace as the only positive way of moving the nation forward. Until his appointment as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Kachikwu was the Executive Vice Chairman and General Counsel of Exxon Mobil (Africa).

A first class graduate of law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the Nigeria Law School, he also holds masters and doctorate degrees in law from the Harvard Law School.

On Monday the management and the entire board members of Skye Bank announced that they had “voluntarily” resigned after failing to steer the bank out of its liquidity palaver.

In an email to staff, former group managing director of the bank, Timothy Oguntayo, said that “counter forces from within and outside the bank…made it impossible to achieve steady progress.” He added that despite his best effort, he could not lead the bank into a position of strength.

In another email announcing the resignation of its management and board of directors and the appointment of a replacement by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the bank said that step was necessary due to the urgent need for “new strategic direction …given the poor performance we recorded in the 2015 financial year end, and the attendant challenges”.

The Nigeria Police Force on July 4 rescued a woman and her children who were kidnapped on July 3, 2016, at her residence in Ayobo Area of Lagos State. When the information of the Kidnap got to the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, Ag.IGP Ibrahim Idris, NPM, mni, ordered the immediate deployment of a detachment of Counter Terrorism Unit to the area for the safe rescue of the victims.

It could be recalled that when the news of the kidnap spread around the Ayobo area, some good spirited members of the community mobilized to apprehend the hoodlums until the Police were contacted.

Njiya-Goron Community threatens to wage war with Herdsmen

The Njiya-Goron community of Adamawa state is threatening to wage war with Fulani herdsmen to check continuing attacks on its people.

The chairman of the community, Manassah Nayangom in a statement in Yola on Monday, July 4 said the incessant attacks by herdsmen on the community which had claimed several lives and destroyed properties, have left the community with no option than to fight back since authorities had failed to contain the herdsmen’s attacks. 

According to Premium Times, the chairman of the community, which comprised 13 villages, said the community had so far lost 65 people and property worth over N2 billion. 

Nasarawa State: Police deploys 2,000 Officers for Eid-el-Fitr

Nasarawa State Police Command said on Tuesday that it has deployed over 2,000 officers to various strategic places in the state in order to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, Lawal Shehu, in Lafia said that appropriate measures were being taken to forestall any breakdown of law and order during the festivity.

He said officers have been placed on surveillance patrol of identified flash points of violence and criminality across the state.

Bangladeshi politician dumbfounded by son's role in Dhaka terror attack

A prominent Bangladeshi politician has spoken of his shock on discovering his son was one of the suspected gunmen who murdered foreign hostages at the Holey Artisan Bakery on Friday, in Dhaka.

Imtiaz Khan Babul said he was shocked to learn of his son Rohan's involvement in the attack, and that he believed young Bangladeshi men were becoming radicalised online as many from wealthy and educated families had gone missing

His comments came after Bangladesh's home minister said the attackers who stormed the upmarket cafe on Friday night, taking dozens of diners hostage and killing 20, were highly educated and from wealthy families.
