Justice Niki Tobi is dead

Former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Mr. Niki Tobi, has died. He passed on in the early hours of Friday, June 17, at the National Hospital, Abuja.

According to reports, the retired judge who had been having health issues since his retirement in 2010 at age 70, went blind and totally lost his memory. His corpse has now been deposited at the Garki General Hospital morgue.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared Osagie Ize-Iyamu winner of its just concluded Edo State governorship primary election.

Iyamu won a total of 584 votes to emerge winner, beating his closest rival, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, who scored 91 votes to take the second place, while Solomon Edebiri scored 38 votes to emerge third.

53-year-old woman gives birth to her first child after several miscarriages

A Vietnamese couple's lives are filled with joy and laughter since they welcomed their first child in their 50s, five months ago.

Tran Thi Phuc, 53, and her husband, Nguyen Van Manh, 54, gave birth to their first daughter, Tuong Vy, in February. The couple starts their normal days with Manh going to work till late in the evening while Phuc stays home and looks after their little baby.

PHOTOs: Chinese Dog Festival set to begin Tomorrow

Are you a lover of dog meat? Well it might just be the right time to travel to China as preparations are in full swing for the dog meat festival which is scheduled to be held in the southern city of Yulin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Local residents are waiting for the dogs to arrive, so they can get to work, while traders have their hands full, desperately trying to meet demand.

The first step of the festival has already gone underway: thousands of dogs are shipped from all over the country to Yulin. They are either stolen pets or strays, who traders argue nobody will miss, so why not cook them. The canines are rounded up and crammed in wired cages and left with no food and water and no room to breathe. The journey can take from a couple of hours to two or even three days. Some of the dogs do not survive this daunting experience.
