REPORT: 18 persons confirm dead in Lekki building collapse

According to report release, 18 persons including a woman and her child have been confirmed dead after a five-storey building under construction collapsed early yesterday in Lekki, Lagos.

Thirteen people were rescued from the rubble by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)

NEMA SouthWest media coordinator Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the death toll and the number of those rescued.

The incident occurred at Horizon 1, Lekki Gardens in Ikate, at about 3am when it was raining heavily. Many workers believed to have been trapped in the building.

Ekiti Lawmakers disclose they are being offered $1 Million to Impeach Governor Fayose

Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have raised the alarm over plot to coerce them into impeaching Governor Ayodele Fayose, saying a sum of $1 million was being promised some of the members that will be ready to be part of the impeachment plot.

The Assembly members, who vowed not to collaborate with anyone to truncate the government of Governor Fayose, added that; they were prepared to spend the rest of their tenure in DSS cell, instead of joining people that they roundly defeated in five straight elections to cause another political instability in Ekiti State.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon Gboyega Aribisogan disclosed that “In the last four days, eight of our members had been visited by some men, who claimed to be officials of the DSS.

Buhari to Zuma: "MTN Nigeria Helped Boko Haram Kill More People"

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said South African mobile phone operator MTN Nigeria fuelled the Boko Haram insurgency in northeast Nigeria by failing to disconnect millions of unregistered users.

All mobile phone operators in Nigeria were ordered to disconnect unregistered SIMs by mid-2015 on security grounds but MTN missed the deadline.

Nigeria’s communications regulator last October slapped a $3.9bn fine on the Johannesburg-based firm, which has since paid out $250m towards the penalty.

Federal Government employs Ocholi’s son, gives others Scholarship

The Federal government has offered automatic employment at the Federal Ministry of Justice to Aaron Ocholi, the only surviving son of James Ocholi, Minister of state for Labor and Employment, who died alongside his wife and son in a fatal accident along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway on Sunday March 6th. ‎ Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, disclosed this today when he visited the bereaved family.

Malami also disclosed that the late Ocholi's other children will enjoy scholarship programmes from the Federal Government. Aaron is a law graduate who was called to bar in October 2015.

Yinusa Dahiru, Ese Oruru’s Suspected Abductor Arraigned

Yinusa Dahiru, who is alleged to have abducted Ese Oruru has been arraigned at the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The suspect was arraigned before Justice Nganjiwa and accused of conspiring to commit abduction.

The suspect had five-count charges read out against him and he pleaded not guilty to all.

FG has realize ₦2.3Bn from the sack of 23, 846 Ghost Workers

Federal Government of Nigeria has announced on Sunday that over 23,846 ghost workers were being removed from its monthly payroll, saving the government N2.293 billion from the total salary bill for the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for February 2016 when compared to December 2015 when the BVN audit process commenced.

Speaking on the matter, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, said the ghost workers were uncovered in payrolls of various MDAs during the ongoing bank verification number (BVN)-based staff audit and enrolment to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The BVN is a unique number that identifies each bank’s customer for “Know Your Customer” (KYC) purposes.

Ayodele Dada has made history by graduating from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with an amazing 5.0 CGPA. In this interview with UNILAG Sun’s Muftaudeen Raji, he reveals the secrets behind his remarkable life. Excerpts:

Would you briefly tell us about yourself?

My name is Ayodele Daniel Dada. I graduated from department of Psychology, Faculty of Social science, University of Lagos. I’m from Ekiti State. We are just two siblings, I have a younger brother. I’am a kind of person who is open to various experiences. I try to experiment a lot and I have tried so many things. I have been into music production in the past.

Your educational background?

I had primary education and secondary education here in Lagos. My secondary school is Hopebay College, Ajegunle-Apapa, off Lagos-Badagry expressway. We lived close to that area. So after secondary school, it took me a while to decide on what I wanted to do because I had a brief stint learning how to do some bit of IT, bit of network business but it wasn’t really serious, it was just on the surface level and I did some French.

WhatsApp to drop support for the BlackBerry platform

Blackberry user you all need to read this! As if it has not been a bad time for Blackberry already, WhatsApp has decided to drop his service to blackberry uses in 2017.

The messaging service, in a statement celebrating their 7th anniversary, announced that in 2017, they’d be ending support for the service on all Blackberry devices, including Blackberry 10.

Blackberry wasn’t the only platform affected, with Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and 2.2, and Windows Phone 7.1 also facing the cancellation.

Emmanuel Emenike says no going back to the Super Eagles

Newly signed West Ham FC striker, Emmanuel Emenike has ruled out the possibility of him returning to the Super Eagles, following the exit of the team’s former chief coach, Sunday Oliseh.

Wow! Remember the two cast of the famous movies "Titanic"? It was on Dec. 19, 1997 when the movie "Titanic" premiere, a crowd saw Leonardo DiCaprio let go of a raft into icy cold water to his presumed death, leaving Kate Winslet all alone to float in the north Atlantic Ocean.

Ever since that moment, nobody has known what happened to DiCaprio, but the world finally has an answer. He survived!

PHOTO: Pastor shot dead right at the Pulpit on Sunday Service

A 70 years Ohio pastor with deep roots in the Dayton community was shot and killed at his church Sunday, and police say they expect to charge his brother in the slaying on Monday.

The Rev. William B. Schooler was shot around 12:30 p.m. while in his office at St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church, Dayton police said.

His brother, Daniel Gregory Schooler, 68, was arrested at the scene and taken to the Montgomery County jail. He faces a murder charge on Monday, said Sgt. Richard Blommel.

Police said they did not know Sunday what led to the shooting but said the pastor was the only intended victim.
