Man gets 5 years jail term after setting pregnant lover on fire

A 37-year-old bar operator who was identified as Lucky Esonahae was on Monday arraigned on one count bordering on causing bodily harm by setting his pregnant lover on fire.

The prosecuting officer, Sergeant Ganiyu Yahya, told the court that the incident took place at Uwelu Quartres in Benin, and was reported by the victim, Stella Isaac, on July 6, the same day it occurred.

Yahya said Esonahae poured kerosene on Stella, who was said to be 7 months pregnant, lit a match and set her on fire.

A French woman name Natalie Amyot is attempting to use social media to get back to a man who she had a one night stand with and eventually got pregnant. She  posted a video on Facebook and Youtube trying to track down the Australian man she fell instantly in love with when they met and whom she spent her last night with after a three month trip to Australia. She said the man is very cute, 183cm tall, with blue eyes, blond hair and a tan. She said after the passionate night, she flew to Paris the next day, lost her phone which contained his number and has now discovered she's pregnant.

Governor El-Rufai decries Fraudsters Impersonating Him

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, on Monday raised the alarm that fraudsters are using his name to defraud job seekers in the state.

The Governor warned those applying for employment in the State Civil Service or contracts to be wary of such unscrupulous elements.

In a statement he issued through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, Governor El-Rufai said that security agencies were on the trail of the fraudsters.

Boko Haram strike leave 80 persons dead In Borno

Borno State has again been thrown into mourning, as suspected Boko Haram gunmen on horse back allegedly shot 80 people in three villages in Borno State.

Eyewitness says one of the villages, Baanu, is said to be a few kilometers away from Maiduguri.

The terrorists on arrival opened fire on the villagers, killing about 68 people. Other civilians fled the community for safer areas.

Buhari’s appointments not based on tribe, religion - Secretary to the Government of the Federation

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, says the recent appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari were not based on their tribes or religion.

President Buhari’s appointment of Lawal and five others, has been widely criticised for overtly favouring the northern region.

Five out of the six appointees were picked from the North while one is from the South.

According to Fayose, the appointments made by President Buhari has showed an agenda for a deliberate Nothernisation of Nigeria. He also said it was wrong for the President to have made 31 major appointments and only seven were from the South while 24 were from the North.

How Nigeria Former Minister of Works siphoned over N20m

According to Vanguard Newspapers, the former minister added his wife and sister-in-law, to an official list of ministry staff, going for training in Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

The reports also revealed that the former minister paid his wife and sister-in-law, N1,475,023, and N1,474,023 respectively, for the one week trip.

He also paid N496,023 each, for business class tickets for both of them, while officials of the ministry, paid N250,000 each.

Abubakar Audu Emerges APC Governorship Flag Bearer in Kogi State

A former Governor of Kogi State, Abubakar Audu, has emerged candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state governorship election slated for Nov. 21.

Audu is being prosecuted by the anti-graft agency, EFCC, of misappropriating N11 billion of the state’s funds while he was governor between 1999 and 2003. Audu emerged winner of the APC governorship primary which was held in Lokoja between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

He polled 1, 109 votes to beat his closest rival, Yahaya Bello, who scored 703 votes.

EFCC begins probe of Former Petroleum Minister

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commence a full scale investigation of the activities of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke during is tenure in office.

Punch Newspapers reports that a four-member committee of crack detectives, constituted a commission to probe all the accounts of the NNPC, which were supervised by the former minister.

It is believed that the commission is led by a Superintendent of Police, while the other three members of the committee were pioneer civilian operatives of the commission with high capacity for investigation.

APC National Chairman: “Many of us are not comfortable with Buhari’s appointments”

The All Progressives Congress, has promised to get involved in the subsequent political appointments of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The party took the position as a result of the widespread criticisms that trailed the President’s recent appointments. APC National Chairman Chief John Oyegun, spoke with Thisday on Saturday, and disclosed that many leaders of the party were uncomfortable with Buhari’s appointments.

He said:

Ijaw Youth Council: “Buhari’s appointments violate federal character principle”

The body Ijaw Youth Council has made a public announcement on their displeasure over President Muhammadu Buhari recent appointments. The council said Buhari contravene the provisions of the country’s federal character principle. They believe Buhari’s appointment is lopsided and goes against the constitution.

In a statement on Sunday by its spokesman, Eric Omare, said Buhari’s lopsided appointments did not respect the principle as stipulated in Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution.
