Maiduguri Airport to re-open 18 months after being shut due to Boko Haram attacks

Good and great news as the Maiduguri International Airport is set to be re-opened after being closed 18 months ago due to Boko Haram attacks. This was disclosed on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, by the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Zannah Mustapha.

Zannah also said that the Federal Government had approved the re-opening of the airport for commercial activities.

Boko Haram kill 15 in fresh attack in Borno community

In a fresh attack, Boko Haram sects has reportedly killed 15 persons in a remote community in Borno State, residents say.

The insurgents invaded Huyum, in the Askira-Uba area of the state on Monday, June 8, 2015, according to AFP.

Residents of the town are also said to have lost about 500 homes in the attack.

The likes of Ron Vlaar, Glen Johnson and Micah Richards are among those who look set to leave their clubs after the Premier League released lists were revealed on Wednesday.

Psychiatrist says 20% of Nigerians prone to mental disorder

In a recent interview with News Agency of Nigeria, A Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Femi Olugbile, on Wednesday said  disclose that 20 per cent of Nigerians are prone to mental disorder. Dr Olugbile was a former Chief Medical Director, Lagos State University Teaching Hospial, Ikeja.

“At least 20 per cent of the population will at some time in their lives experience at least one episode of mental disorder,” he said.

According to him, it can also be due to high rate of poverty, lack of social welfare and high rate of endemic infectious diseases.

ISIS captures 88 Eritrean Christians in Libya

A U.S. defense official confirmed Monday that the ISIS terror group had kidnapped about 88 Eritrean Christians from a people-smugglers' caravan in Libya last week.

The defense official confirmed initial reports of the mass kidnapping after seeing a recent intelligence report. The convoy was ambushed by militants south of Tripoli before dawn this past Wednesday morning.

Meron Estafanos, the co-founder of the Stockholm-based International Commission on Eritrean Refugees, said that the group of migrants included "about 12 Eritrean Muslims and some Egyptians. They put them in another truck and they put 12 Eritrean women Christians in a smaller pick-up".

Oscar Pistorius may be released and place under house arrest

South African Olympian Oscar Pistorius who was convicted for shooting his Girlfriend may be release and placed on house arrest in August.

The Olympian was jailed for five years last year after being convicted of the manslaughter of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp but new development under South African law suggest he will be eligible for parole in two months, and if granted release he would serve the rest of his sentence at home.

However, the 28-year-old athlete's case is scheduled to go in front of South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal again in November, the court confirmed today, as prosecutors plan to challenge the decision to acquit him of murder.
