Ondo State | PDP wants Justice Abang probed

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, yesterday, alleged ‘unholy alliance’ between Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja and a faction of the party in order to destabilise it ahead of November 26 governorship election in the state.

The Chairman, Clement Faboyede, who said petition has been filed against the Judge alleging that the judgment of the court on the state governorship election was at variance with the matters before the court, wondering if the judge has become ‘Father Christmas’ that gives unsolicited gifts.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s secretariat in Akure, the state capital, Faboyede said the suit before Justice Abang was to determine the tenure and membership of the State Executive Committee of PDP in the South West Zone and directions in respect of party primaries for 2019 General Elections and not the 2016 governorship election.

The party Chairman said the case was concluded on June 29 and the reliefs that had to do with election referred to, were tied to 2019 General Election, saying there was no nexus between the suit and 2016 Ondo State Governorship election.

Faboyede said it was during the hearing of a contempt proceedings against Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the presiding judge directed INEC to receive the nomination papers of Jimoh Ibrahim from the applicants as State Executive of the PDP against the backdrop of numerous decisions of the Supreme Court that it is the National Executive of a political party that has the responsibility to submit names of Candidates to INEC.
