The Police in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, have confirmed the arrest of three officials of the state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources over their alleged complicity in the diversion of N12 million meant for the supply of fertiliser to farmers in the state.
Spokesman of the command, Moses Yamu, who confirmed the arrest of the trio, said they were being quizzed over their alleged involvement in the scam.
Those arrested included the Director of Finance, Christiana Mhambe; Accountant, Samson Abeh and the Cashier in the Ministry, Susan Chieriyol.
The suspects were said to have used the state government’s account to defraud some persons who were said to have offered the amount through them for the supply of fertilisers, but later reneged on the agreement earlier reached.
The state Commissioner of Agriculture, Mr. James Anbua, has also confirmed the arrest of the three and noted that, the matter is being investigated by the police.
