After 81 days in prison, Kemi Olunloyo regains freedom shares first post

Ehya! Finally, Baskethmouth of social media regains freedom and she is still begging for help ...

A journalist and blogger, Ms Kemi Olunloyo, who finally regained her freedom from the Port Harcourt Prison on Monday has lamented the poor condition of Nigerian prisons.

Olunloyo, who is the daughter of a former governor of Oyo State, Dr Omololu Olunloyo, pointed out that the prison system in the country needed urgent reform.

Olunloyo was arrested in Lagos in March and arraigned at the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for alleged cybercrime.

She was said to have published a story believed to be capable of defaming a cleric, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.

Olunloyo, who finally regained her freedom around 3pm, told our correspondent on the telephone that she met ex-Biafran and Niger Delta agitators in the prison.
“That prison is a big newsroom, but Nigerian prisons need reform. I met ex-Biafrans and Niger Delta agitators in the prison,” she said.
It was gathered that Olunloyo’s inability to fulfill her bail terms kept her longer than necessary in the prison, where she was remanded by the Federal High Court.

Olunloyo and a publisher were earlier arraigned in a High Court before she was rearrested and taken to the Federal High Court.
