The Kaduna State Government has finally banned street hawking and begging as well as affirming commercial motorcycle activities in the state capital and other urban centres in the state.
This was the outcome of resolutions reached the State Security Council meeting held at Government House, Kaduna.
Briefing reporters at the end of the meeting, the special assistant to the governor on Media, Samuel Aruwan, said the decision was to maintain law and order in the state based on credible intelligence report of security threat to lives and property.
He explained that the ban was with immediate effect and remains in force till further notice and therefore urged the citizens to remain law abiding in compliance with the government directive.
It would be recalled that the state government had last year banned beggars and hawkers from operating in the state.
The ban which generated controversies, resulted in violent protests by the affected parties. Though the implementation was scheduled for September last year, it could not take off until now. As at the time of filing this report, there was no reaction from any quarters
