Bobby Joe Washington, returned a mortuary van after he found a dead body at the back.
The 24-year-old car thief stole a parked van, with the keys left inside by the driver who checked into Chicago Avenue morgue in Riverside to pick up a paperwork, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
He, however, returned the van and stole a second vehicle, after he found a fresh corpse in it.
But this second time, he was stopped by a mortuary employee. He tried running over the employee and sent the police on a 10-minute chase but was finally arrested about 2½ miles from the morgue.
Los Angeles Times reports that Bobby is now facing a 3-count charge, which include; auto theft, evading police and assault with a deadly weapon.
However, charges of stealing the dead body was dropped because cops believe he never wanted to.
"I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anything like this, out of all the bad decisions he made, he at least made one good one and brought back the deceased person. We don’t think he knew it was in there at the time he stole it" said Riverside Police Department spokesman Ryan Railsback.
