Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere has frowned at the stance of President Muhammadu Buhari that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable.
Buhari had on Wednesday warned Niger Delta militants calling for the emancipation of the region over their perceived marginalisation to lay down their arms, stressing that the country must remain united at all cost.
Responding to the President’s comment, National Publicity Secretary of the body, Yinka Odumakin claimed that Nigeria has already been divided under the very watch of the President.
He stressed that the President might not be reading the mood of the nation correctly, the Punch reports.
According to Odumakin, “I think the President is a sincere man but he may not be reading the mood correctly.
“The country is divided under him than before. Amalgamation and armed dialogue are going on all around us over the unity of Nigeria which many sections perceive has treated them unfairly.
“To continue to insist that the unity is not negotiable is aping that bird which buries its head in the sand and believes because it is seeing nobody, it has become invisible too.”
