Chelsea FC midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has been appointed the new captain of the Super Eagles by coach Samson Siasia.
Mikel Obi takes over from CSKA Moscow winger, Ahmed Musa.
Team coach, Siasia, who arrived at the decision on Wednesday night, told the team that he intends to give the captain armband to the longest serving player.
Musa told ESPN that “Mikel is the oldest serving player in the team and it is the right thing for him to have the armband. This is just to correct what was done in the past.”
“The most important thing for us right now is to concentrate on the two games in front of us and make sure that we beat Egypt and qualify for the [African] Nations Cup.”Yeah I think this is the right thing to do, it was a mistaken giving it to Musa by Former Coach Sunday Oliseh
