CAF President Says Nigeria Can Lift 2018 World Cup


President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ahmad Ahmad is hopeful that Nigeria makes history in next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia by surpassing their previous records in the global mundial.

The CAF President who was recently in Nigeria for a football stakeholder forum described Nigeria as the strongest African contender tipped to lift the World Cup in July next year.

'Any mistake, we are finished' - Goodluck Jonathan warns PDP


Former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, has advised Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members not to make the mistake of making the wrong choice of National Working Committee (NWC) members at the December convention.

Jonathan gave the advice when he received an aspirant for the party’s national chairmanship position, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, in his residence in Abuja on Tuesday. He cautioned that the party could not afford to make mistake in choosing its next national chairman and publicity secretary, describing them as “very delicate positions’’. “This time around we need a very courageous and vocal person to be the chairman. “There are two positions that we must not make mistake on – the positions of the national chairman and that of the national publicity secretary, because I have worn the shoes before and I know where it pinches.

What will happen to Nnamdi Kanu’s sureties if he is not in court on Tuesday


The Sureties of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, are expected to provide him in court tomorrow.

Nnamdi kanu’s whereabouts is yet to be known following the invading of his home in Umuahia by men of the Nigerian army, under the Operation Python Dance II.

Fate of Kanu’s sureties will top one of the issues Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, will decide in court tomorrow in one of the applications initiated by the federal government.

IPOB to FG: Bring Kanu to court dead or alive


The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned the federal government not to provoke it into taking up arms by continually keeping its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. It warned that Kanu must be brought to court Tuesday dead or alive.

The group added that its angst would be felt if the Nigerian government failed to produce Kanu in court, dead or alive to continue his trial.

Plateau State: Over 29 Killed In Fresh Attack


No fewer than 29 people mostly women and children were in the early hours of Monday killed during an attack in Nkiedonwhro village of Irigwe chiefdom in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

It would be recalled that series of attacks said to be carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen have been occurring in villages in the Chiefdom thereby forcing the State Governor, Simon Lalong to declare a dusk to dawn curfew in the local government area.

PHOTOS: Army launches Exercise Crocodile Smile II


The Nigerian Army has launched its 2017 training operations tagged Exercise Crocodile Smile II, in Lagos and Ogun states, areas covered by troops of 81 Division.

The force disclosed that the exercise commenced in Ogun and Lagos, on October 7, 2017 and will end on October 28, 2017.

The exercise could, however, progress to an operation when they start going after criminal elements in those states.

Boko Haram: Army kill 15 insurgents, recover ammunition in Borno

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said its troops had killed 15 Boko Haram insurgents after repelling attack by the terrorists at Yamteke village in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno.

Brig. Gen. Sani Kukasheka, the Director, Army Public Rations, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Maiduguri. Kukasheka said the troops repelled attempt by the insurgents to infiltrate a military outpost on Tuesday in the area. He explained that the troops had demonstrated bravery and utilised heavy fire power to defeat the insurgents who attacked in trucks and high caliber ammunition.

Governor Fayose lists reasons why Buhari is Nigeria’s worst president ever


Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has asserted that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is the most corrupt in the history of Nigeria.

Fayose made the allegation while accusing the President of “treating corruption involving his men as family affair.”

Edo State: Government to establish quarantine centre over monkey pox outbreak


The Edo Government says it will establish a quarantine centre as part of efforts to prevent and manage the outbreak of Monkey Pox in the state.

Monkeypox is a zoonotic viral disease transmitted from affected animals to humans. The state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr Paul Ohonbamu, disclosed this while briefing newsmen after the state Executive Council (EXCO) meeting in Benin on Wednesday.

Strong 6.2-magnitude quake shakes Mexico City


A strong earthquake shook Mexico on Saturday, causing new alarm in a country reeling from two still-more-powerful quakes this month that have killed nearly 400 people.

The US Geological Survey says the new temblor was centered about 12 miles (19 kilometers) southeast of Matias Romero in the state of Oaxaca, which was the region most battered by a magnitude 8.1 quake on September 7.

The Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, Wednesday, said that CNN commended Buhari for his wonderful speech at the 72 session of United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, in New York, noting that he spoke as President of Africa.

IPOB: Only courts can pronounce a group terrorist organisation

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) said yesterday that its declaration as a terrorist organisation by the Defence Headquarters was a clear breach of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act of 2011.

The DHQ, on Friday, pronounced IPOB a ‘militant terrorist organisation’ in Nigeria for allegedly “clandestinely and actively terrorizing the general public.”

Major-General John Enenche, Director, Defence Information (DDI), listed IPOB’s acts of terrorism as: the formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorized blocking of public access roads and extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.

Nigerian troops launch manhunt for IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Nigerian troops yesterday launched a manhunt for Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu , barely 24 hours after the group’s proscription.

Nothing has been heard about Kanu since the proscription. Some sources yesterday said he had gone underground.

Kanu is on bail for the alleged treason charges preferred against him. It was learnt yesterday that his bail sureties might be asked by the security agencies to account for him.

Police reveals cause of longing Hausa, Igbos’ crisis in Jos


The Plateau State Police Command has warned residents to desist from making provocative comments capable of threatening the existing peace in the State.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Terna Tyopev, gave the warning in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Jos.

He was reacting to the Thursday’s clash between some Igbo traders and Hausa youths where two persons were killed.

Nigerian Military Declares Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB terrorists


Nigerian military on Friday declared the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) a terrorist organisation.

 This is contained in a statement by Major General, John Enenche, Director Defence Information.

He said, “after due professional analysis and recent developments, it has become expedient, to notify the general public that; the claim by IPOB actors that the organization is non violent is not true.

United States calls for calm in Army, IPOB clash


The United States Government has called for calm as violence between the Nigerian Army and the secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, continues to cause tension within the South-East.

The US Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria said in a tweet on Friday that it was joining well-meaning Nigerians to sue for peace.

Fani-Kayode blows hot over declaration of Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB as terrorists


Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has condemned the declaration of Nnamdi Kanu and his group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)as terrorists.
