Suspended NIA DG, Oke, says Jonathan ordered release of $289m


The suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ayodele Oke, has met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, where he admitted that his agency received the sum of $289,202,382 on the orders of former President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2015.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, ordered the suspension of Oke over the role of the NIA in the ownership of $43m (about N13bn) and other currencies uncovered in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

An attacker with an automatic weapon opened fire on police on Paris’ iconic Champs-Elysees Thursday night, killing one officer and seriously wounding two others before police shot and killed him.

Paris police spokeswoman Johanna Primevert told The Associated Press that the attacker targeted officers guarding the area near the Franklin Roosevelt subway station at the center of the shopping avenue popular with tourists. She said he appeared to be acting alone.

How Militant group killed eight pirates, kidnappers in Bayelsa


The Niger Delta Revolutionary Council, NDRC, a militant group in the Niger Delta region, clashed with a gang of sea pirates and kidnappers at Azuzuama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, leaving eight leaders of the pirates, including the leader, “General Thunder,” dead.

The group claimed that its strike force invaded the den of the sea robbery gang and engaged the members in a gun battle.

Over 30 people are feared dead at a football viewing centre in Calabar, the Cross River State capital on Thursday after a high tension cable fell on them.

Channels Television correspondent in Calabar reported that the live electricity cable broke from its mooring and fell on the viewers.
