Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly has been Impeached


The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Momoh Jimoh was this afternoon impeached by his colleagues. His impeachment was endorsed by 17 of the 25-member House. He was accused of financial recklessness and misconduct.

Karim Benzema suspended by France Football Federation over sex tape blackmail scandal


France and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been suspended indefinitely from the French national team over the sex tape blackmail case he is currently involved in with team mate Mathieu Valbuena. The president of the national football federation (FFF), Le Graet said today that Benzema was put under formal investigation by a French judge last month in connection with an alleged attempt to blackmail international team mate Mathieu Valbuena over a sex video.

OAU scrap automatic employment for First Class graduates


The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Bamitale Omole, says the university can no longer give automatic jobs to First Class graduating students in line with its tradition. This is because of the economic down turn, which has affected the university’s finances.

Nigerians react after Lagos State Government closes 53 of mosques, churches


The decision of the Lagos State Government to shut down 53 churches, mosques and hotels across the state for noise pollution has generated a debate among Nigerians.

While some expressed support for the move, others criticised it, accusing the state government mixing up its priorities.

The Former Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has lost his wife Kate. Stephen Keshi who is currently in the USA said that his late wife has been ill for a while before giving up the ghost on Wednesday.
“She was ill for a while now and I’m still in shock of this great loss,” Keshi said.

Nigerian Army arrests Boko Haram Chief cameramen and 2 others (PHOTO)


Military officers of 28 Task Force Brigade yesterday December 4th, arrested another Boko Haram terrorist suspect, Abdullahi Abubakar Sadiq, believed to be the terrorists Chief Cameraman and suspect number 58 on the list of 100 suspected Boko Haram terrorists wanted list. He was arrested at Uba town, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. The troops also arrested two other suspected Boko Haram terrorists along with two other terrorists at at Rumirgo and Kilakasa.

"This is to inform the general public that the Boko Haram terrorist group has continued to establish and operate sleeper cells whose (sole) mandates are to conduct surveillance and carry out subsequent attacks in the FCT. This disclosure has become necessary following the arrests of the sect’s members who migrated from various conflict theaters in the North East to the FCT in order to enable them capitalize on the excitement of the yuletide season to launch attacks in the city.

For instance, on October 29th, 2015, the duo of Muhammed Hassan Idris (a Nigerien) and Baba Abdul Maina were arrested at Panteka area of Apo, Abuja. This was followed by the arrest of Sanni Mohammed (aka Kakase) and Ahmed Umaru (aka Mallam; Mallam Hamdi Garne; Ahmed Daubi) in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Sanni, who hails from Potiskum, Yobe State, fled the area following his involvement in coordinated suicide attacks in Yobe, Plateau, Kano and Kaduna States.

Arms Deal: My father never bidded for any arms contract during Jonathan's govt - Dokpesi's son


Raymond Dokpesi Jnr, the son of embattled chairman of DAAR group, Chief Raymond Dokpesi has released a statement distancing his father from the controversial $2.1 billion arms deal scandal.

According to a statement released titled "The Continued Detention of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi by The EFCC on Allegations of Money Laundering" which was signed by him, he said his father was only contracted to develop a Multi Media Strategic Development Support Project to promote and project the achievements and highlight the challenges of former president Jonathan's government. He says in the statement that his father is not a contractor with the Ministry of Defence and does not supply arms.

An attack by three suicide bombers at Island of Koulfoua on Lake Chad today has left now fewer than 27 people dead. As at the time of this report, no group has claimed responsibility yet.

President of China pledges $60billion to develop Africa


President of China Xi Jinping has pledged a $60bn zero-interest loan to Africa that will help in the development of the continent. He said this at the opening of the China-Africa Corporation Forum in Johannesburg this morning. He announced that China will train 200,000 technicians for Africa and also offer 40,000 training opportunities for Africans.

Chris Brown cancel Australia tour due to visa trouble


Chris Brown has canceled plans for a Down Under tour after Australian authorities earlier warned the troubled R&B singer that they were likely to refuse him a visa because of his criminal conviction for assaulting pop star Rihanna according to report from New York Times.

Ticketing agency Ticketek on Wednesday posted a statement from Brown's promoters saying the planned December tour of Australia and New Zealand had been canceled and those who had bought tickets would get refunds.

Florida man convicted of killing wife and posting Facebook photo


A jury found a Florida man guilty of second-degree murder after he killed his wife and posted a photo of her blood-spattered body on Facebook.

Jurors on Wednesday rejected the argument that Derek Medina, 33, acted in self-defence when he shot 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso eight times in August 2013 at their Miami residence, according to a court spokeswoman.

500 Nigerians deported from the UK


No fewer than 500 Nigerians were reportedly deported by the government of the United Kingdom (UK) on Wednesday.

The plane bearing the said 500 Nigerians touched ground in Nigeria’s Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, as most of the deportees expressed dissatisfaction with returning home and the manner they were treated by UK authorities.

National Population Commission to adopt Biometric Technology for 2017 Census


The National Population Commission (NPC) in Nigeria, says it will adopt the use of biometric data technology for the 2017 population and housing census.

The technology will involve the capturing of facial impression and fingerprints of respondents.

According to the Chairman of the commission, Eze Duruiheoma, the aim is to eliminate all forms of manipulation and also give the nation accurate, reliable and indisputable demographic data that will drive the country to sustainable development.

4 years old Michigan boy talks for first time with new voice box


Grant Hasse was born with two very rare conditions - one that's usually fatal, the other that should have left him unable to talk.

But at almost 4 years old, he's a healthy bundle of energy after three dozen surgeries, including an innovative operation to create a new voice box.

Doctors discovered before he was born that Grant's upper airway was completely blocked, meaning that at birth, he'd be unable to breathe. Even with quick intervention, doctors said his survival chances were extremely slim.
